By using makealbum.com or ordering an album you agree to these terms. We’ve tried to keep them short and free of legalese.
The service
MakeAlbum lets you upload photographs, generates a complete album draft using a trained AI, lets you polish it in our editor, and prints + ships the result as a 300×300mm lay-flat hardcover photo album. We operate from Lisbon, Portugal. Printing and shipping are performed by our print-production partner, Saal Digital GmbH (Germany).
Your account
You’re responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe. One person, one account. Don’t use the service to upload content you don’t have the right to print (someone else’s copyrighted photographs, etc.) — you alone are responsible for anything you upload.
Ownership
You keep all rights to your photographs. We receive a narrow licence to process them solely for the purpose of building, printing, and shipping your album. We never republish them, sell them, or use them in marketing without your written permission.
The album layout, captions, and chapter titles generated by our AI are yours too — modify, reprint elsewhere, do as you wish. The MakeAlbum brand, software, and AI model remain ours.
Price & payment
A 26-page interior album costs €179, including standard shipping. Additional pages update the price before checkout. Payment is processed by Stripe, or by the partner website you started your album from; we don’t see your card number. MakeAlbum operates under the Portuguese small-business VAT exemption (isenção, art. 53.º CIVA), so no VAT is added — the price you see is the final price. Customers outside the EU may be liable for local import duties, depending on country.
Approval & production
You approve every spread before we send anything to print. Production starts only after your explicit “Approve & order” click and a successful payment. Once approved, the album typically arrives within 6–10 working days inside the EU, 10–14 days worldwide.
Cancellations, changes and returns
Every album is made to order from your photographs. That shapes what can be cancelled, changed or returned, and when:
- Before production starts: free cancellation. You can cancel at any point until the album is sent to print, at no cost, by emailing info@makealbum.com. Anything already paid is refunded in full to the original payment method. For self-serve albums nothing is charged until you press “Approve & order”, and a paid order is sent to print shortly after, so make changes before you approve.
- Done-for-you: nothing is printed until you approve. With the Done-for-you service you pay first, our team builds the album, and you receive a preview by email. Ask for changes as often as you like; the album is only sent to print after you approve that preview. Cancel before approving and you are refunded in full.
- After production starts: no right of withdrawal. Because the album is a custom-made product personalised with your photographs, the 14-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts does not apply once production has started (Directive 2011/83/EU, article 16(c), and its national transpositions, including Portuguese Decreto-Lei 24/2014). Changes are no longer possible at that point either, as the print file is with the printer.
- Print defects or shipping damage: reprint at our cost. If the book arrives damaged, misprinted, with binding faults or with pages missing, email photos of the problem to info@makealbum.com within 14 days of delivery. We reprint and reship at our cost; you keep the first copy. If tracking shows the parcel lost or stolen, we reship at no charge.
- Photo quality you approved: no refund. You approve every page before it is printed. A photo that is soft, dark or tightly cropped in the printed book exactly as it was in the preview you approved is not a print defect, and neither is a caption or a photo choice you would now make differently. The approval step is what protects this for both of us.

Liability
We’ll fix any problem we caused. Beyond reprint or refund of the order, our total liability is capped at the price you paid for the album. We’re not liable for indirect losses (sentimental, consequential, or otherwise).
Changes to these terms
If we change anything material, we’ll email all account holders at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance.
Governing law
Portuguese law applies. Any dispute we can’t resolve amicably will be heard in the courts of Lisbon.
